An Evanston store owner is scheduled to appear in court next week on charges of selling counterfeit CDs and DVDs.
Deputy Police Chief Joe Bellino says officers executed a search warrant last week at the Evanston Wireless store at 609 Howard St. and recovered 268 counterfeit compact audio discs, 705 counterfeit DVD movies and 110 pairs of counterfeit Nike shoes.
He says they also found computers allegedly used in making the CDs and DVDs, a laptop computer reportedly taken in a residential burglary in Evanston and other suspected burglary proceeds.
Police say 41-year-old Warren Darnell Pitts of 1613 Lake St. faces charges of counterfeiting trademarks, unlawful use of unidentified sound recordings and possession of stolen property.
Chief Bellino says the seizures followed a tip from investigators with the Recording Industry Association of America and an undercover purchase of a counterfeit recording at the store.
