Evanston police say shots were fired into an occupied home in the 2000 block of Dodge Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. today and some hit a mattress where a child was sleeping.
Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott says officers responding to a report of shots fired in the area found the house that had been shot up.
He says several people were in the home at the time — including children five- and 10-years-old.
No one was injured in the incident.
Extra police patrols have been added to the neighborhood after two homicides there in the past 30 days, and Parrott says that initial indications are the lastest incident may be related to the ongoing violence between two feuding extended families, some of whose members may also have gang ties
