Evanston police say officers completing a traffic stop in the area of Brummel Street and Ridge Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday heard multiple shots fired in the area.

Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says officers spotted eight shell casings and broken glass from a car window in the northbound lane of Ridge Avenue at Dobson Street. That’s one block north of Howard.

Police were unable to locate the person who fired the shots and no one apparently was hit.

However, police did take another gun off the street overnight. Officers say the Cobra .380 was recovered in the 1500 block of Chicago Avenue during an investigation there.

Update 12:25 p.m.: Dugan says the gun was recovered after police responded to the Hyatt House hotel at 1515 Chicago Ave., at 12:48 a.m. today to assist Evanston Fire Department paramedicts with a 36-year-old Chicago man who was behaving erratically in a room that smelled of burnt cannabis.

Dugan says the man became combative and was eventually taken into custody and transported to Evanston Hospital.

He says a woman who was sharing the room with the man, 33-year-old Elissia Robinson of Chicago, admitted while being interviewed by police to having a loaded .380 handgun in her car.

Officers recovered it, Dugan says, and she was charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Dugan says the man is still hospitalized and hasn’t been formally charged yet but has three active warrants for his arrest.
