Evanston police are searching for the gunman who shot a 24-year-old Skokie man this evening near the intersection of Mulford Street and Custer Avenue.

Police spokesman Perrry Polinski says about 6:50 p.m. police responding to several 911 calls from the area reporting shots fired found the man in an alley. He’d been shot in the torso and was transported by Fire Department paramedicts to St. Francis Hospital where he was reportedly in stable condition and undergoing surgery.

Police say the gunman fled the scene on foot. He was described as wearing a dark colored hoodie.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the police non-emergency number, 847-866-5000 or use Text-a-tip by sending an anonymous text message to CRIMES (274637) and typing EPD TIP in the message line followed by the information.
