Evanston police are investigating a shooting that occurred about 3:54 p.m. today in the 1700 block of Emerson Street.

A 22-year-old Skokie man told police he had just gotten out of his car when a man walking westbound on Emerson street pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at him.

Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says the victim was struck one time in the thigh and was driven by an acquaintance to Evanston Hospital for treatment.  At this time the injury is not considered life-threatening.

Evanston detectives are on scene investigating the incident.  The only description currently known, Dugan says, is the suspect is a male black wearing a blue shirt.

Two juveniles were taken into custody shortly after the shooting incident nearby in the 1900 block of Darrow Avenue and a handgun was reportedly recovered on that block, but it’s not known whether those events were directly related to the shooting.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Evanston Police Department non-emergency number at (847) 866-5000 and ask for the detective bureau or utilize Text-A-Tip by sending an anonymous text message to CRIMES (274637) and typing EPD TIP in the message line followed by the information.
