A Mount Prospect man wanted for allegedly assaulting a woman in Evanston is in St. Francis Hospital after being shot by Skokie police.

NBC Chicago and the Skokie Review report Evanston police alerted Skokie officers this morning that the man was riding through their town on a CTA bus after grabbing the woman’s wrist on the bus in Evanston.

Skokie police say the man allegedly got off the bus in downtown Skokie and tried to break into a business on the 4800 block of Oakton Street.

They say he pulled out a knife and lunged at responding officers who hit him with a baton and sprayed him with pepper spray to no effect before shooting him once in the leg.

The 53-year-old man is reported to be in stable condition. Skokie police say charges are expected to be filed against him in the next day or so.
