Want to get a better picture of how Evanston works? Curious about Evanston’s history and its neighborhoods? Need to know more about your community to support your professional or volunteer work?
Come to Snapshot Evanston. Snapshot Evanston is the fast-track community orientation program offered by Leadership Evanston, on Thursday, Oct. 16, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Evanston Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Avenue.
Designed to give local residents and Evanston-based employees a broader and deeper knowledge of the community and its issues, Snapshot Evanston provides an opportunity to meet with local leaders and tour the city.
Snapshot Evanston begins with a look back at Evanston’s history. A bus tour of Evanston neighborhoods follows, highlighting major trends of yesterday and today. Panels of distinguished community leaders, including city government leaders, representatives of the school districts, and experts in economic development, share their expertise and knowledge. By the end of this inspiring day, participants have a better picture of how Evanston works and its strengths and challenges as it moves into the future.
This information-rich overview of Evanston has been applauded by a wide variety of attendees, from newcomers to the community to longtime residents and employees. “Every business owner in Evanston should attend Snapshot,” says Dick Peach, lifelong resident and longtime businessman who attended a Snapshot program.
Registration fee for Snapshot Evanston is $75 and includes lunch and the bus tour. Participants should contact Jane Grover, Assistant Director, Leadership Evanston, 1007 Church, Suite 108, Evanston 60201, 847-492-0992, grover@evanstonforever.org.

Snapshot Evanston is a program of the Evanston Community Foundation’s Leadership Evanston. Since 1992, Leadership Evanston has trained committed leaders for the community through its signature Leadership Evanston program, Senior Leadership Evanston, and the Public Service Challenge.
The Evanston Community Foundation was established in 1986 as a publicly supported philanthropic organization dedicated to enriching Evanston and the lives of its residents, now and in the future. The Foundation builds community endowments, addresses Evanston’s changing needs through innovative grant-making, and provides leadership in bringing people together around issues of community concern. In 2008, the foundation’s annual grantmaking will grow to nearly $500,000, with cumulative local grants of $3.7 million in the Foundation’s first twenty-two years.
