Snow emergency parking rules extended

It’s taking longer than expected for city crews to clear away snow from side streets — so the daytime snow emergency parking regulations are being extended through Sunday.

In addition, the overnight snow route parking ban on major streets will be in effect for a third night — from 11 p.m. tonight through 6 a.m. Friday.

The daytime snow emergency parking rules will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Residents should not park on the even side of the street on even-numbered dates and not park on the odd side of the street on odd-numbered dates.

In conjunction with the extension of the snow emergency, the free parking program in the city’s three downtown garages has been extended through 10 p.m. Sunday evening.

Elderly and disabled individuals in need of assistance with snow shoveling can contact the City for more information on the volunteer-based snow shoveling program.

And the city is asking residents and business owners to make sure that their refuse carts and dumpsters and the areas around them are cleared of snow so garbage trucks will be able to make pickups.

City crews started plowing alleys today to make it possible for garbage trucks to get through. Wednesday pickups now are scheduled for Friday and Thursday pickups will occur on Saturday this week.
