Evanston officials have put snow emergency parking rules into effect for Thursday and Friday.
Snowfall totals in the city are now nearing 10 inches and snow fall rates have diminished — but lake effect snow is expected to start early Thursday morning and continue through mid-afternoon.
Assistant Public Works Director James Maiworm says how much lake effect snow we’ll get is hard to determine at this point — but it could be several additional inches.
For Thursday residents should park on the odd-numbered side of the street, and on the even-numbered side on Friday. The emergency parking rules will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
The rules apply to residential streets that are not posted as snow routes.
Update 5:36 a.m. 1/2/14: The city will also have a snow route parking ban in effect from 11 p.m. tonight (Thursday) until 6 a.m. Friday. A map showing main roads affected by the overnight parking ban is available online.
