The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning that’s in effect from 9 a.m. Wednesday until 4 a.m. Thursday.

Heavy wet snow accumulations of 1 to 7 inches are expected across the metro area — but the heaviest snow is expected to be well south of Evanston.

Strong northerly winds will gust to 45 miles per hour and when heavy show is falling that’s expected to reduce visibility to near zero, making travel dangerous to nearly impossible at the height of the storm.

The northerly winds are also expected to cause minor lakeshore flooding and beach erosion — especially Wednesday night.
