Evanston’s snow storm parking regulations have changed a bit this year.

Residents living on side streets with parking normally permitted on both sides will only have to keep their cars off one side of the street for 10 hours instead of 12 hours to let the snow plows do their work.

The new snow ban hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. — compared to last year’s hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The snow parking regulations are in effect from Dec. 1 to March 31 each year.

Streets and Sanitation Superintendent Suzette Eggleston says the snow crews have figured out how to get their plowing work done a bit quicker. That followed complaints from some residents who said the evening ban left them with no place to park when they returned home from work.

Just like last year, the new ban applies to the even-numbered side of streets on even-numbered days and the odd-numbered side of streets on odd-numbered days after a snow fall of four inches or more.

The city sounds emergency sirens at 7:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. on days when the snow emergency rules are in effect.

The full scoop on snow regulations can be found in this city brochure.
