Evanston city officials have decided to invoke snow parking regulations over the weekend.
A snow route parking ban will be in effect from 11 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
Parking will be prohibited on all snow routes and violators will be ticketed and towed. Snow routes are the major streets and are marked with snow route signs.
Snow emergency parking rules will be in effect Saturday and Sunday.
The even-numbered sides of residential streets will be cleared between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday and the odd-numbered sides will be cleared during the same hours on Sunday.
Violators are subject to ticketing and towing.
Temperatures are expected to dip under 10 degrees for Saturday and additional snow is expected so it is important to clear the snow to the curb as quickly as possible.
Streets and Sanitation Superintendent Suzette Eggleston says city officials realize that there is an added inconvenience when a snow emergency occurs over the weekend.
She says residents may find it helpful to make alternate parking arrangements. Residents can park in the city’s downtown garages for free this weekend because of the holiday shopping parking promotion and also explore the variety of shopping, entertainment and dining experiences available downtown.
Eggleston reminds residents to shovel sidewalks a full 36-inch width and to clear the snow away from any handicap ramps adjacent to your property.
