The National Weather Service now is forecasting between four and eight inches of snow for Evanston on Saturday.

Edgar Cano of Evanston’s Public Works Agency says snow plow crews have been scheduled for the duration of the storm.

Cano says the snowfall is predicted to be moderate to heavy at times from mid-afternoon Saturday until about 11 p.m. or midnight.

“Lake enhancement snow will follow, and we could end up seeing a total of 5 to 7 inches of snow on pavement by 7 a.m. Sunday,” Cano adds.

Temperatures are expected to be around 20 degrees at 7 a.m. Sunday, dropping to 15 degrees by noon. Overnight Sunday into Monday the low may dip into the single digits with wind chills below zero.

To encourage motorists to get their cars off city streets during and after the storm, the city is offering free parking in the Maple Avenue garage from Saturday through Thursday, and at the Sherman Plaza and Church Street garages on Saturday and Sunday.

Snow parking restrictions are likely to be in effect. Details about those regulations are available online.
