Evanston city officials have announced a snow route parking ban for Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Parking is prohibited on snow routes from 11 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Forecasts call for substantial amounts of snow overnight, although as of 9:30 p.m. the precipitation falling was more rain than snow.

Portions of Evanston experienced power failures during the early evening hours. In the 1700 and 1800 blocks of Wesley and Ashland avenues power failed about 7:30 p.m. and was restored just before 9:30.

There also were reports of power failures in some portions of the Sherman Plaza complex and in some condominium buildings on Sherman Avenue north of downtown.
