The National Weather Service says 6 to 8 inches of snow has fallen in Evanston overnight and we can expect to get another 2 to 4 inches today.

Edgar Cano of Evanston’s Public Works Agency says crews are out plowing the snow and spreading salt as needed.

“We are doing our best to maintain main and secondary roads clear while making passes on residential streets,” Cano says. “Once the intensity calms and provides opportunity, we will turn our focus to clearing residential areas.

Northeast winds are expected to gust to 30 to 35 miles per hour today and tonight, which will cause blowing and drifting snow to continue.

The weather service says we’ll also see waves 8 to 12 feet high along the lake, leading to minor to moderate flooding of lakeshore parks.
