The Evanston Township High School Wildkits had more base runners, more strikeouts and fewer errors, but still lost to the Lane Tech Indians 2-0 Tuesday.

It’s called a game of inches for a reason, and the luck was with the Indians today.

The Wildkits loaded the bases three times, each time making outs on hard-hit balls. In each of these would-be rallies, freshmen were coming up with the hits.

And the Kits only struck out six times against the Indians’ #3 ranked pitcher Kaitlin Ambrose.

In the bottom of the sixth, Caitlin Boer, Izzy Bergman, and Allie Nortz each singled to load the bases. Maddie Reiches then hit a hard one hopper which was hit so hard that the defense was able to make the out at home, cutting down a run.

Freshman Emma Maxwell then showed that she is afraid of nothing as she hit a line drive between shortstop and third base that looked like it was going to tie the game. However, the Lane Tech shortshop made a diving catch of her ball and the inning was over.
