Evanston’s holiday tree is scheduled to go up in Fountain Square Thursday, and an alert Evanston Now reader spotted what we think is the tree in question out in northwest Evanston today.

Dan Mennemeyer says he snapped a picture of this tree on the back of a city truck on Colfax Street, shortly after it was cut down by a city crew at a home on Prospect Avenue nearby.

The city traditionally gets the holiday tree for Fountain Square each year as a donation from a property owner whose tree has grown to be just a little too big for their lot.

The tree lighting ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. More details about that here.
