A sprinkler head that was activated in a seventh floor room at Evanston’s Hilton Orrington Hotel early today sent a fire alarm and caused water damage to the room, according to Evanston police.

The occupants of the room left during the alarm, which occurred at about 1 a.m., and did not return, according to Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan. He said that detectives will follow up.

Management of the hotel was not available for comment.

Dugan said the cost of damage to the hotel was unknown.
