The daughter of a woman whose 98-year-old mother now lives in an assisted-living facility discovered that someone described by police as a “squatter” had entered her mother’s vacant home on Ridge Avenue. This among stories in today’s daily crime bulletin from Evanston police.

BURGLARY

1300 Ridge

A burglar, who police suspect is a “squatter,” had forced entry into a home in the 1300 block of Ridge Avenue that was owned by a 98-year-old woman who had moved to an assisted living facility in Evanston. Summoned by the elderly woman’s daughter, police discovered bedding in the home that apparently was brought into the house by a homeless person. Missing was a Dell computer valued at $500.

1000 Dewey

Cash was taken from an unlocked 2019 Chevrolet in the 1000 block of Dewey Avenue between 5 p.m. on Nov. 24 and 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 25.

1900 Grant

Cash was taken from an unlocked 2009 Honda in the 1900 block of Grant Street between 7 a.m. Monday and 5:45 a.m. Tuesday.

BATTERY

1454 Elmwood

Jacob E. Ruiz, 39, of 725 Washington St., was arrested at Evanston police headquarters at 8:22 p.m. Tuesday and charged with battery.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

1600 Simpson

All the tires were flattened on a 2003 Buick in the 1600 block of Simpson Street between 10 p.m. Monday and 1 p.m. Tuesday.

1400 Foster

Someone slashed the rear tire and dented a 2006 Land Rover in the 1400 block of Foster Street between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday.

DRUGS

1500 Ridge

Jovannie Martinez, 38, of 26016 S. Linden Ave., Monee, was arrested at 1500 Ridge Ave. at 12:43 a.m. Sunday and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

GRAFFITI

800 Sheridan

Graffiti was discovered on a tree in a park in the 800 block of Sheridan Road at 7:42 a.m. yesterday.

Greenwood at Sherman

Spray paint was discovered on a viaduct at Greenwood Street and Sherman Place at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

1800 Maple

Graffiti was discovered on a garage in the 1800 block of Maple Avenue at 3:21 p.m. yesterday.

THEFT

1600 Sherman

Portable electronic communications equipment was stolen from the downtown Target store in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue around 9:15 p.m. Monday.

1100 Davis

Two bicycles were taken from the sidewalk in the 1100 block of Davis Street around 11 a.m. yesterday.

1400 Darrow

An iPhone was stolen from a residence in the 1400 block of Darrow Avenue between noon on Thanksgiving Day and 5:06 a.m. today.

1500 Fowler

Food was stolen from an establishment in the 1500 block of Fowler Avenue around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.

3200 Grant

A wedding band that belonged to a deceased resident of the Presbyterian Homes in the 3200 block of Grant Street was declared missing at 5:08 p.m. Tuesday.

800 Simpson

A bicycle secured on the sidewalk in the 800 block of Simpson Street was stolen between 6 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. Tuesday.

TRAFFIC

7510 Western

Juan F. Aguilera, 48, of 1554 W. Jonquil Terrace, Chicago, was arrested at 7510 N. Western Ave., Chicago, at 7:45 p.m. Saturday and charged with driving on a revoked or suspended license.

399 Dempster

Costel Apetrechioae, 53, of 2853 N. Moody Ave., Chicago, was arrested at Dempster Street and Judson Avenue at 5:17 p.m. Saturday and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

1012 Chicago

Giovanni F. Dennison, 32, of 1509 W. Albion Ave., Chicago, was arrested at 1012 Chicago Ave. at 6:32 p.m. on Nov. 25 and charged with driving on a revoked or suspended license.

1000 Chicago

Patrick R, Downie, 61, of 1804 Lemar Ave., was arrested at 1000 Chicago Ave. at 6:14 p.m. Friday and charged with driving on a revoked or suspended license.

1439 Ridge

Michael Guzman, 31, of 3513 W. Hisrch, Chicago, was arrested at 1439 Ridge Ave. at 5:20 p.m. on Nov. 26 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

300 Ridge

Kelvin Gerrard Loyd, 37, of 1135 Wilmette Ave., Wilmette, was arrested at 300 Ridge Ave. at 4 p.m. Tuesday and charged with driving on a revoked or suspended license.

1707 Emerson

Joan Elizabeth Thompson, 53, of 1709 Grove St., was arrested at 1707 Emerson St. at 2:42 p.m. Tuesday and charged with driving with no valid drivers license.
