St. Francis wins top chest pain center accreditation

Presence Saint Francis Hospital announced today that it has received Cycle IV, the highest designation in Chest Pain Center Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care

Saint Francis became the first Accredited Chest Pain Center in Illinois ten years ago.

Cycle IV, Presence officials said in a news release, offers the most comprehensive and thorough methodology, the standard for process improvement in the cardiovascular market.

It covers a full-range of steps for hospitals to implement for improvement, from community outreach to patient care and measurements of results, which extend to senior management, or the governance element.

To become an Accredited Chest Pain Center, Presence Saint Francis Hospital engaged in rigorous evaluations by SCPC, an international not-for-profit organization that assists facilities in their effort to create communities of excellence that bring together quality, cost and patient satisfaction.

The program is aimed at:

  • Reducing the time from onset of symptoms to diagnosis and treatment.
  • Treating patients more quickly during the critical window of time when the integrity of the heart muscle can be preserved.
  • Monitoring patients when it is not certain that they are having a heart attack to ensure that they are not sent home too quickly or needlessly admitted to the hospital

“Hospitals that have received SCPC accreditation have achieved a higher level of expertise in dealing with patients who arrive with symptoms of a heart attack, and we are proud to achieve such high recognition with them,” said Roberta Luskin-Hawk, M.D., Regional President and CEO for Presence Saint Francis Hospital and Presence Saint Joseph Hospital – Chicago.
