The gingerbread house in the lobby of The Merion.

A king-size gingerbread house is filling the lobby of The Merion senior living community in Evanston with a spicy seasonal aroma this week.

Maria Hammer of The Merion staff says the project was a team effort of staff from all departments to build and decorate the festive creation.

To add another traditional holiday décor feature to the display, the staff added a model train that runs around the house.

Hammer says that the before the pandemic residents of The Merion, at 1611 Chicago Ave., could have decorated their own gingerbread houses, “but with current restrictions, we did the next best thing.”
