State Rep. Daniel Biss of Evanston, sworn in last week to his first term in the Illinois House, says he’ll hold the first open house at his new district office later this month.

Biss, shown here in Springfield with his wife Karin and their children just before the swearing in ceremony Jan. 12, says fiscal responsibility will be his key focus during the legislative session.

He said he was to create opportunitities for citizen input and base decisions upon long-term planning.

The former teacher says he plans to advocate for teacher training and accountability but ensure that public education isn’t hit with a disproportionate share of the state’s budget cuts.

The open house will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 30, at the office at 3706 Dempster St. in Skokie.
