The Chute Middle School Environmental Club is partnering with SWANCC (Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County) to conduct a gym shoe collection drive.
SWANCC coordinates an annual collection for old athletic court-type shoes in cooperation with Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program.
Shoes collected at Chute, 1400 Oakton St., are taken to the SWANCC transfer station in Glenview and are then transported to Nike’s facility where they become Nike Grind – a material that is used to make running tracks and other athletic court surfaces.
When can shoes be dropped off?
How long is this event taking place? And where and when can shoes be dropped off at Chute? Thanks!
Shoe drive
Hi Martha,
The school website says the shoe drive runs through the end of April and that collection bins are located outside the locker rooms.
Not clear from the item whether donations of shoes are only being accepted from Chute students or from the larger community.
I’d suggest you call the school at 847-859-8600 to get an answer to that question. If you do, feel free to share it here.
