Evanston got at least a brief respite from the extreme heat warning this afternoon when a thunderstorm blew through town, but the storm also toppled some trees and left some resididents without power.

City Manage Wally Bobkiewicz says the storm knocked down a treet at 2213 Payne St. and one at the intersection of Isabella Street and Girard Avenue.
In addition fallen branches blocked the street at at 525 Dodge Ave.

At 2:15 p.m. ComEd says about 134 customers were without power near the intersection of Ridge Avenue and Colfax Street. 

The storm dropped temperatures from near 90 degrees to the high 70s as it passed through, but temperatures are already starting to climb back to the levels that have prompeted the National Weather Service to issue am excessive heat warning that’s expected to remain in effect until 7 p.m. on Friday.
