Just over 18 months after Safeway closed its Chicago-area Dominick’s supermarket chain, the two affected stores in Evanston are scheduled to reopen with new owners a week apart this month.

Valli Produce, small family-owned chain based in Arlington Heights, has scheduled a ribbon cutting for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, at its new store in the Evanston Plaza shopping center at Dodge Avenue and Dempster Street.

The soon-to-open Whole Foods on Green Bay.

Whole Foods, the national chain that already has two stores in Evanston, plans to open for business at 2748 Green Bay Road one week later, on Wednesday, July 29.

Whole Foods officials say their new store will be the first Whole Foods in town to feature a beer and wine bar. It will have 20 draft beers on tap including a new, exclusive B.I.O. Pale Ale from Evanston-based Sketchbook Brewing Company.
