Organic fast food planned on Gross Point

Owners of business they describe as the nation's first certified organic fast food drive-thru hope to open at the former site of a gas station on Gross Point Road in Evanston.

The site at 2628 Gross Point Road, on the corner of Crawford Avenue, is now a vacant lot but had been a Citgo gas station that closed several years ago.

The shuttered Citgo station in 2012.

In 2011 developers proposed building a Chase Bank branch on the site that would have extended to also include two properties to the northwest that front on Crawford.

But after several revisions to scale back the size of the project in response to neighborhood opposition, Chase Bank eventually pulled out of the project in late 2013.  and  eventually killed that plan

Underground storage tanks were removed from the site and the gas station building was demolished, but no productive use had been found for the property until now.

Nik's Organic currently has one location, in Rolling Meadows.

In other development news, Wintrust Finacial Corp. has filed plans with the city to locate a branch at the former Chase Bank at 901 Grove St., and a new carry-out restaurant, Pono Ono Poke, is planned for the Park Evanston apartment building at 1630 Chicago Ave. in the space recently vacated by Ixia Flowers.
