Plans for what would be Evanston's fourth brewpub were reviewed Wednesday by the city's Design and Project Review Committee.

Mike Chookaszian, an owner of the Napolita Pizzeria & Wine Bar in Wilmette and co-founder of a co-working space there, said the site at 2119-2125 Ashland Ave. has a 30-car parking lot and that they plan to build a new addition in the back of the building to house the brewing operation.

The building would also include a display area for classic cars to tie in with the "Double Clutch Brewing Company" theme as well as a kitchen and dining area.

Chookaszian said that for larger events they would bring in an outside catering firm to provide food service.

Operating hours are planned to be from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. or midnight on weekdays and about an hour later on weekends.

The building was acquired last summer for $1.21 million by Nine Seas Investments, LLC, managed by Dennis Chookaszian, the former chairman and CEO of CNA Insurance Companies.

The property is located in the MXE, mixed use employment district, and will require a zoning ordinance text amendment and a special use permit for approval.

The Design and Project Review Committee unanimously recommended approval of the proposal to the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Plan Commission.
