Hinsdale-based Normandy Remodeling won city approval this week of its plans to open a showroom on Central Street in Evanston.
The property, at 2929 Central, had been an office of Coldwell Banker real estate until that firm relocated to new offices at 1710 Central St.

The 2929 Central building has been vacant for a couple of years.
The new use will include bath and kitchen displays as well as meeting areas and seminar and conference rooms.
City staff had previously rejected a plan for the property that included a entry area that would have projected slightly into the public sidewalk area.
But at Wednesday's Design and Project Review Committee meeting staff praised the new plan that has the framing for the entry set nine inches back from the property line.
Community Development Director Johanna Nyden said the new design "fits more into what Evanston architecture is."
She added that "it will be good to see the blue awnings going away."
