Openings: Tag's, Squeezebox and more

Fancy lights set the atmosphere at Tag's Cafe.

New and relocated businesses are holding celebrations in Evanston this weekend.

Tag's Cafe

Tag's Cafe, 2012 Central St., right next door to the bakery of the same name, will be offering free samples of daily specials and select baked goods from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today along with live music.

The cafe is open for breakfast and lunch and features sandwiches and beverages along with desserts from the bakery.

Squeezebox

Squeezebox, an independently owned book and record store, is celebrating its move from Chicago Avenue to new quarters three times as big at 743 Main St. with a 20 percent off sale on Sunday.

Patrons can also stop by and enjoy music from DJs and live music from members of the ETHS band.

"In today’s era of high tech, high touch can be a welcome relief," says owner Tim Peterson of his boutique-style used book and music store.

“The joy of discovery is what makes this business so fun! Every bag or box that comes through the door holds a treasure," Peterson says. "By culling the unique, the curious and the classics, Squeezebox offers an ever-changing shopping experience.”

Theo Ubique

And Theo Ubique, the cabaret theater opening soon on Howard Street in Evanston, will hold its Silver and Gold fall benefit gala at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Peckish Pig, 623 Howard.

Tickets are $65 in advance and $75 at the door for an afternoon of light bites and "sparkling musical performances."
