You might not believe it, given the chilly, extremely soggy weather we've been having, but Evanston's downtown farmers' market is scheduled to open for the season on Saturday.
It's the 44th season for the market -- which will be open every Saturday through the fall from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at University Place and Oak Avenue.
As many as 60 vendors sell a wide variety of fresh goods at the market. LINK cards are accepted and customers can receive up to $25 of matching funds each Saturday.
This weekend, Byline Bank will also offer free document shredding from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
An interior view of the new Stacked and Folded on Noyes Street.
Owners of the new restaurant, Stacked and Folded, that we first reported on back in January, have now set Monday, May 20, as their opening date in the new four-story building at 824 Noyes St. that rose from the shell of the storefront that once housed the Noyes Street Cafe.
The Stacked and Folded team launched their first version of their concept in Winnetka in 2015.
And the City of Evanston is looking for an experienced food service operator to take over the cafe at the Gibbs Morrison Center at 1823 Church St., which until recently was the home of First Slice Pie Company.
