Evanston Mayor Steve Hagerty says he doesn’t plan to follow Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s lead and impose a curfew on liquor sales here.
Lightfoot is putting a 9 p.m. curfew on liquor store sales into effect starting tonight because, she says, far too many people “have been congregating at stores that sell alcohol.”
Lightfoot says the curfew will last as long as the governor’s COVID-19 stay-at-home order.
Hagerty says, “At this time, we have no plans to modify hours for holders of liquor licenses in Evanston.”
Evanston’s largest package liquor dealer — Binny’s — currently closes at 5 p.m. or 7 p.m. depending on the day. Evanston 1st Liquors, the city’s oldest package store, is open as late at 10:30 p.m. on some days.
