Evanston's Design and Project Review Committee will get a preliminary look this afternoon at plans for a new seven story dorm at the north end of the Northwestern University campus.

The new dorm at 560 Lincoln St. will replace a set of low-rise residence halls known as Peanut Row that were built in the late 1930s and demolished in 2013.

The new building, designed by William Rawn Associates, will be the first new dorm built on the campus in more than a dozen years.

NU officials have described the 560 Lincoln building is the first step in implementing a 10-year housing master plan for the campus.

As part of that plan the university will require all sophomores to live on campus starting in 2017. Currently only freshmen are required to live on campus.

The new structure, located across the street from the city's water plant, will have views to the east of Lake Michigan over the planned new lakefront athletic center.
