Concepcion Calderon, interim principal of Evanston’s Lincoln Elementary School since the resignation of Chris McDermott in the fall, has been officially named principal of the school effective July 1.
A former middle school teacher at Chicago’s Calmeca Academy of Fine Arts and Dual Language, Calderon joined District 65 at the beginning of the school year as its bilingual curriculum coordinator.
Superintendent Hardy Murphy, who made the announcement of her promotion at the district’s school board meeting earlier this week, lauded the new principal for her leadership that helped “ease a mid-year change for all Lincoln stakeholders.”
Although her appointment does not take effect until July, she will continue as interim principal until the end of the school year, Murphy said.
The new principal holds a masters in educational leadership degree from the American College of Education. Her undergraduate degree was in commerce and marketing from DePaul University.

If Evanston wants to get serious about the achievement gap, this is the direction that our schools also need to go- either through the public schools or possibly Infant Welfare Society. THe LENA device described is an amazing tool.
