City invites artists to apply for grants

Budding Evanston artists are invited to apply for a share of some $30,000 in grants from the city’s Arts Council.

Although the final deadline for applications is February 9, those who would like to have their work reviewed and receive suggestions in advance should submit their application by January 19.

Awards are made in three categories:  Organizations, up to $4,000; special programs and projects, up to $4,000; and individual artist projects, up to $2,000.

Applicants may only apply for one of the grant categories. All projects must take place in Evanston in order to successfully qualify for a grant.

Two free cultural grants fund workshops will be held ahead of the deadline—at 2 p.m.. on January 4 and 6 p.m. on January 8. Both workshops will be held in Room 2404 of the Morton Civic Center, at 2100 Ridge Ave.

The goal of the Cultural Fund Grant Program is to sustain and advance the community’s arts industry. Evanston’s vision for its Cultural Fund Grant Program is to activate the extraordinary assets of the community to develop Evanston as an arts hub and destination.

This fund is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.

Additional information is available on the city’s website.
