Five named to McGaw YMCA board

The Evanston-based McGaw YMCA has named five new members to its board for three-year terms that started this month.

The new members are:

  • Carole Brite, a certified public accountant who is chief financial officer for the Center for Financial Services Innovation. She previously was chief executive officer of Planned Parenthood of Illinois. She holds a bachelor's degree from Indiana University.
  • Haydee Martinez, a lieutenant on the Northwestern University police department. Born in El Paso, Texas, she served in the U.S. Navy and holds a bachelor's degree in organizational behavior from Northwestern.
  • Michael Nabors, senior pastor of Second Baptist Church in Evanston. A social justice advocate, he has received over 100 community, church and ministry awards for leadership and service and is president of the Evanston-North Shore Branch of the NAACP.
  • Marjorie Rallins, a podiatrist, is vice president and chief scientific officer for the PCPI Foundation, a Chicago non-profit that works to improve health outcomes for patients. She also is an advisor to the Maryville Academy Alumni association.
  • Vince Sweeney, a certified public accountant with an MBA from DePaul University, is chief financial officer for the Specialty Retail Group of Companies of the Marmon Group, part of Berkshire Hathaway. He's a former board member at St. Athanasius School in Evanston.

McGaw President/CEO Monique Parsons said the new members will  be excellent additions to the board "keeping us mission-focused and continuing our growth of impact across Evanston.

Board member concluding their service include Janet Crawford, Mary Dolan, Bill Gifford, Leslie Granchalek, Jabari Porter and Mark Teasdale.

The 132-year-old McGaw Y is headquartered at 1000 Grove St., which houses its comprehensive wellness center with two pools and drop-in childcare space, the MetaMedia digital lab center for youth, and men’s residence.

It also provides services at the Children’s Center, 1420 Maple Ave., the Family Focus Center, 2010 Dewey Ave., and Camp Echo in Fremont, Michigan.

It has 12,000 members and serves an estimated 20,000 people in the community each year...
