The Evanston School District 65 School Board Monday night appointed Phil Ehrhardt and Heidi Wennstrom to serve as co-interim superintendents for the coming school year..

Ehrhardt served most recently as superintendent of Benjamin District 25 in West Chicago. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in school administration from Indiana State University and a doctorate from Indiana University.

Wennstrom retired recently as superintendent of Butler Elementary District 53 in Oak Brook.

The board says it opted to hire two retired superintendents, who have limitations on the amount of time they are able to work during a calendar year, to work staggered part-time schedules to have experienced leadership available to serve staff, students and families throughout the year.

“Dr. Ehrhardt and Dr. Wennstrom bring significant collective experience in relationship-building, collaborative decision-making, restorative practices work and fiscal management. We believe that they will make a strong team to keep our district moving forward during this coming year,” said Suni Kartha, board president.

Working with BWP & Associates, the board is continuing its search for a permanent superintendent.
