Evanston’s Board of Ethics Tuesday evening dismissed a complaint filed by former aldermanic candidate Misty Witenberg against one of her opponents in last year’s election, Alderman Robin Rue Simmons, 5th Ward.
The complaint involved a contract between the city and Sunshine Enterprises, an entrepreneurship training program that Rue Simmons works for.
City Corporation Counsel Michelle Masoncup says the board found that Rue Simmons acted reasonably in recusing herself from City Council approval a grant payment request submitted by Sunshine in January.
It said the claims in Witenberg’s complaint regarding Rue Simmons’ conduct before taking office had been disposed of previously in response to Betty Ester’s complaint filed in April 2017. In addressing Ester’s complaint, the board said no violation of the city’s Code of Ethics had occurred.
