Evanston aldermen tonight are scheduled to review plans for a 60-unit subsidized senior housing development at 999 Howard St. The developers are also seeking $2 million in city funds to help finance the project.
The project would include rehabbing the existing CJE SeniorLife adult day service center at 1015 Howard St. and building a new four-story structure on what's now a parking lot for CJE vehicles and the site of a former Dairy Queen at 999 Howard.
The planned development would include 55 parking spaces and 54 one-bedroom and six two-bedroom units for persons 62 and over who have incomes at or below 60% of area median income.
Developer Evergreen Real Estate Group is seeking site development allowances for building height, setbacks, parking requirements and loading area height.
The zoning ordinance for the project is scheduled for introduction tonight. If there are no delays, a final approval vote could come at the Council's Monday, Jan. 27, meeting.
The city's Housing and Homelessness Committee last week recommended approved of $2 million in city funds toward the nearly $25 million project cost.
About a quarter of the city money would come from federal HOME funds, the rest from the city's own Affordable Housing Fund.
Most of the project's funding will come from the federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program, with smaller amounts from the Illinois Housing Development Authority and other sources.
