Free bulk trash pickups canceled

If you were thinking of spending some of your quality time at home during the COVID-19 pandemic cleaning out junk from your house -- well, that idea just got more expensive.

The City of Evanston announced this morning that its Public Works Agency has canceled the regular free spring bulk trash pickup program that had been scheduled for April.

To protect the health and welfare of employees, the notice says, no loose, bulk items will be picked up during regular weekly collections.

It appears you can still arrange a special bulk trash pickup at a price that begins at $100.

The free bulk trash pickup program is now scheduled to resume in the fall, and you can sign up online for reminder messages about the schedule for that.

In another disposal note, the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County has suspended Saturday electronic drop-offs. One-day SWANCC events that were scheduled for April and early May have also been canceled.
