COVID-19 takes playgrounds out of service

Evanston city workers roped off playground equipment at parks around the city today because of concerns that the coronavirus may remain alive on surfaces perhaps for days and that kids using the equipment won't keep a safe social distance.

The closure order also applies to some facilities used by older residents -- like basketball and tennis courts.

But city officials say that otherwise the parks and trails do remain open for exercise during the stay-at-home order issued by the governor.
