South Evanston neighbors who’ve heard about the robbery and carjacking that left a pizza delivery man bruised and his car incinerated are pitching in to help him replace the car.

Omar Gutierrez lives in the building at 142-148 Clyde Ave. where Steve Walker was about to make a delivery Tuesday evening when two men jumped him in the courtyard.

Gutierrez has set up a website to take donations, and, working with the Brummel Park Neighbors community group, the effort has raised over $1,300 so far.

Gutierrez says the Kia Optima Walker was driving was worth about $2,000 and is now a total loss. Walker, who lives in Carol Stream had only liability insurance coverage on the car. And, without the car, he can’t work.

Gutierrez says the neighbors plan to meet with Walker next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. outside the building where he was robbed and present him with a check for whatever money they’ve been able to collect.

Meanwhile, two suspects in the robbery have been ordered held on $100,000 bond each.

Evanston Police say Christopher Y. Norton, 21, of the 1400 block of Pratt in Chicago faces charges of robbery and vehicular hijacking.

Carletus Jackson, 22, of the 1300 block of Monticello in Chicago, faces the same charges plus marijuana possession and criminal trespass.

They’re scheduled to appear in Skokie district court on June 25.
