The reports are coming in on how the return of Northwestern students to Evanston went last week.

The Daily Northwestern says only half as many students were hospitalized for alcohol poisoning during new student week — or Wildcat Welcome — this year compared to last.

And the Daily says both campus and Evanston police spent a lot of time meeting with students — talking about how to stay safe and how to get along with their non-student neighbors.

Meanwhile the Evanston Review reports that the students’ return made local restaurateurs happy as they saw a surge in threesomes at their tables — with parents who’d driven a student to campus stopping in for a meal with their offspring before heading back home.

  1. Grateful to hear NWU is taking steps

Certainly we don’t ever want another alcohol-related death; responsible behavior is key. I wonder, does NWU require or offer health insurance to its students, and if so, is alcohol poisoning covered?  I’m also curious if NWU might consider having special services on campus for alcohol poisoning, since this issue persists.

I found a very good article on alcohol poisoning here, including information on how crucial EMT services are and when to call 911: http://www.alcohol-information.com/Treatment_for_Alcohol_Poisoning.html
