Former Evanston Mayor Lorraine Morton watches the unveiling of a sign in front of the Civic Center this evening renaming the building in her honor.

Former mayor Jay Lytle, current Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and former mayor Joan Barr joined Morton for the ceremony.

Lorraine Morton served as Evanston’s mayor from 1993 until her retirement earlier this year.

Previously she’d served nine years as alderman of the 5th Ward.

She also was principal of Haven Middle School for 12 years and taught at Foster Elementary School, Chute Middle School, and Nichols Middle School.
