A 25-year-old man was shot in the head by another man during an argument they were having on Howard Street near Chicago Avenue about 2:45 this morning.
The victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The gunman fled northbound on foot.

The Chicago-Howard intersection is still closed to traffic while police continue their investigation.
Evanston Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says several witnesses have been located and are speaking to investigators.
The death is Evanston’s first homicide of the year.
Update 9:05 a.m.: Traffic is still blocked on Chicago Avenue from Howard to Juneway and on Howard from Clark to Wolcott.
Update 9:17 a.m.: Police say the suspect is described as a 25-year-old black male, about 6-feet tall, with a medium build and wearing a white t-shirt and black pants.
Evanston police detectives along with members of the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the incident.

Update 9:43 a.m.: Howard Street has been reopened to traffic. But Chicago Avenue from Howard to Juneway remains closed.
Update 3:25 p.m.: Police now have identified the shooting victim as Hamza Hammouis of Chicago.
Chicago Avenue was reopened to traffic about 2:20 p.m. — almost 12 hours after the fatal shooting.
