Late-season snow storm due Saturday

It seems too late in the year for this, but the National Weather Service says Evanston can expect to see some snow Saturday afternoon and evening.

Some forecasts say portions of the Chicago area could get as much as four to eight inches by Saturday evening, although other estimates say that in Evanston we'll most likely see less than half an inch of the white stuff.

Temperatures, which are in the low 60s today, are expected to only reach the low 40s Saturday and then drop to near freezing overnight before rising to the upper 40s on Sunday -- which should mean the snow we get will melt on its own.

Update 5:30 p.m.: Edgar Cano of the city's Public Works Agency says we're likely to get 2 to 4 inches of snow on the grass and an inch or two of slush on pavement.

He says equipment has been prepped and crews are on alert to deal with the storm.
