Commonwealth Edison is reporting more than 1,000 customers in Evanston without power at this hour after thunderstorms and high winds estimated at at least 50 miles per hour swept through the city this morning.
The wind also knocked down a parkway tree on Washington Street east of Dodge Avenue, not far from Fire Station #4.
No word from ComEd yet on when they’ll be able to restore power to the affected customers.
Areas without power are concentrated in south Evanston, including just east of Dodge Avenue near Mulford Street, just west of Dodge near Seward Street and along Cuser Avenue south of Oakton Street.
Update 10:35 a.m.: ComEd reports power has now been restored to most customers, but there are still less than 100 customers without power east of Custer Avenue on either side of Oakton Street.
