Evanston police have arrested a 24-year-old Evanston man and charged him with aggravated battery in connection with the shooting of a 28-year-old Evanston woman last month on Howard Street.

Police Cmdr. Brian Henry says detectives identified Elijah Emil Murphy, 24, of the 800 block of Hinman Avenue, as the suspect in the case after interviewing the victim and witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage.

Murphy was taken into custody in Bloomington, Illinois, yesterday.

Police say the victim was a passenger in a car in the 500 block of Howard Street on April 27 when another vehicle pulled up and open fire. She was struck twice, in the right arm and chest, and was driven to Evanston Hospital.

Murphy is being held in Cook County Jail on $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Skokie District Court at 1:30 p.m. on May 28.
