Theft via ‘swapped laptop’ at ETHS

A student at Evanston Township High School suspected that someone switched laptops on him, leaving him with the bad one. This among stories in today’s daily crime bulletin from Evanston police.

Theft

1600 Dodge

A student at Evanston Township High School noticed earlier this month that his school-supplied Chromebook laptop computer was not functioning properly. Upon investigation, authorities discovered that the laptop he thought was his was not the one checked out to him. They suspect that someone picked up his “good” Chromebook and left a “bad” one in its place.

2400 Main

Someone stole a purse, along with alcoholic products, around noon yesterday at a grocery store in the 2400 block of Main Street.

1100 Wesley

A package delivered to a single family home in the 1100 block of Wesley Avenue was stolen around 11:10 a.m. Wednesday.

200 Ridge

A package containing stereo equipment that had been delivered to an apartment common area in the 200 block of Ridge Avenue was stolen between 4:03 p.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Burglary

1500 Oakton

A burglar entered a home in the 1500 block of Oakton Street through an unlocked window and stole cash between 6:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. yesterday.

700 Greenleaf

Someone kicked in the door to a home in the 700 block of Greenleaf Street between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. yesterday and stole a tablet computer, a laptop computer, a gaming system, and jewelry.

1741 Maple

Stephen Anthony Craig, 61, of 1458 Chicago Ave., was arrested at 1741 Maple Ave. at 10:55 p.m. Sunday and charged with burglary.

Traffic

1325 Howard

Juan G. Navarrete, 45, of 1424 Dobson St., was arrested at 1325 Howard St. at 3:59 p.m. Thursday and charged with a traffic violation. He is due in court on Jan. 17 at 10:30 a.m.

1300 Ridge

Edward Ross, 56, of 3714 Country Club Ave., Gurnee, was arrested at 1300 Ridge Ave. at 5:50 p.m. Sunday and charged with a traffic violation. He is due in court on Jan. 17 at 1:30 p.m.

1911 Green Bay

Jose M. Suarez-Gongora, 57, of 1617 Simpson St., was arrested at 1911 Green Bay Road at 3:36 p.m. Friday and charged with a traffic violation. He is due in court on Jan. 17 at 1:30 p.m.

Incidents listed appear among the official reports of the Evanston Police Department. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt, which can only be determined by a court of law. Court appearances take place in Cook County 2nd District Circuit Court in Skokie.
