Burglar distracts victim while accomplice enters home

Two burglars accessed a home in the 500 block of Barton Avenue yesterday by distracting the victim about repairing his roof while one entered through an open door. This among stories in today’s daily crime bulletin from Evanston police.

Burglary

500 Barton

An offender distracted a 73-year-old victim at his home in the 500 block of Barton Avenue by making a pitch for repairing his roof while his accomplice entered through an open door and damaged a filing cabinet around 3:16 p.m. yesterday.

300 Ashland

An unlocked vehicle in the driveway of a home in the 300 block of Ashland Avenue was accessed between 5:30 p.m. yesterday and 4 a.m. today.

Battery

1835 Dodge

Kadeem D. Burton, 28, of 1835 Dodge Ave., was arrested at that address at 4:19 p.m. yesterday and charged with domestic battery.

Criminal Damage

142 Elmwood

Dewane Darrell Ross, 42, address unknown, was arrested at 142 Elmwood Ave. at 12:50 a.m. today and charged with knowingly damaging property. He is due in court on June 18 at 9 a.m.

1400 Greenleaf

Someone shattered the window of a health club in the 1400 block of Greenleaf Street between midnight and 11 a.m. yesterday.

140 Elmwood

A 2015 Kia sustained a broken window and slashed tires in the 140 block of Elmwood Avenue around 12:25 a.m. today.

Drugs

415 Howard

Brian Anthony Carrion, 18, of 10217 Dearlove, Glenview, was arrested at 415 Howard St. at 1:49 p.m. yesterday and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Shots Heard

Washington at Elmwood

Gunshots were reported at Washington Street and Elmwood Avenue at 11:57 p.m. yesterday. Police checked the area but found nothing.

Theft

1600 Sherman

Alcoholic products were stolen from a store in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue between 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and 10:40 a.m. yesterday.

An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt, which can only be determined by a court of law. Court appearances take place in Cook County 2nd District Circuit Court in Skokie.
