2 arrested in melee on Orrington

A mob action in front of La Machinna Restaurant on Orrington Avenue early Saturday involved about 50-100 spectators and police officers from Evanston, Skokie, and Northwestern University, resulting in two arrests. This among stories in today’s daily crime bulletin from Evanston police.

Devon R. O’Banner, 19, of 6645 S. St. Lawrence Ave., Chicago, was arrested at 1620 Orrington Ave. at 12:51 a.m. Saturday and charged with aggravated assault. He is due in court on June 25 at 9 a.m. And Deontae D. Dunnigan, 22, of 2323 E. 73rd St., Chicago, was arrested at 1:32 a.m. and charged with mob action. He is due in court on June 18 at 9 a.m.

Cmdr. Ryan Glew of the Evanston Police Department said that tasers and pepper sprays were deployed by police in an effort to protect officers and to maintain order, but that the incident was brought under control without serious injuries.

Police first learned of the incident when they received a call from a citizen that shots were fired, although Glew said they found no evidence of gunfire at the scene.

Burglary

2000 Sherman

A burglar stole a laptop computer and a purse from an unlocked apartment in the 2000 block of Sherman Avenue between 1 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Friday.

500 Church

Cash was taken from a 2007 Dodge in a parking lot in the 500 block of Church Street between 2:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Criminal Damage                                             

1800 Maple

Someone damaged a plastic sign at the city parking lot in the 1800 block of Maple Avenue around 7:19 p.m. Friday.

100 Custer

A glass door was broken to an apartment in the 100 block of Custer Avenue around 7:03 p.m. yesterday.

Drugs

1836 Dodge

Ebony T. Remied, 27, of 808 Dodge Ave., was arrested at 1836 Dodge Ave. at 10:34 p.m. Saturday and charged with possession of cannabis. He is due in court on June 25 at 10:30 a.m.

Graffiti

500 Sheridan

Graffiti was discovered at a park fieldhouse in the 500 block of Sheridan Road at 9:58 a.m. Friday.

700 Austin

Graffiti was discovered in an alley in the 700 block of Austin Street at 10:02 a.m. yesterday.

Theft

1600 Sherman

Alcoholic products were stolen from a store in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue around 6 p.m. Thursday.

A purse containing cash and credit cards was stolen from a health club in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue between 5:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. Saturday.

1900 Greenwood

A Suzuki motorcycle was stolen out of a van in a business parking lot in the 1900 block of Greenwood Street between May 1 and June 1.

900 Dodge

Food and cosmetic products were taken from a pharmacy in the 900 block of Dodge Avenue around 12:27 p.m. Saturday.

1640 Chicago

Rosalva Ballesteros, 72, of  2905 W. Jarlath St., Chicago, was arrested at 1640 Chicago Ave. at 1:21 p.m. Saturday and charged with retail theft. She is due in court on June 18 at 9 a.m.

2209 Howard

Halla Karaman, 29, of 2529 W. Fitch Ave., Chicago, was arrested at 2209 Howard St. at 2:45 p.m. Saturday and charged with retail theft. She is due in court on July 8 at 9 a.m.

900 McDaniel

Don M. Summers, 50, of 1427 Evers Ave., Chicago. was arrested at 900 McDaniel Ave. at 5:26 p.m. Saturday and charged with retail theft.

Traffic

Lincoln at Orrington

John T. Variola, 60, of  19260 W. Raymond Drive, Elwood, was arrested at Lincoln Street and Orrington Avenue at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday and charged with a traffic violation.

Incidents listed appear among the official reports of the Evanston Police Department. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt, which can only be determined by a court of law. Court appearances take place in Cook County 2nd District Circuit Court in Skokie.
